The Service of GetExternalContent(Crawl) no return value

I tring to study "content crawler" by referring to the following help documents.

When I follow the tutorial step by step,But after I execute the method GetExternalContent(Crawl) , there is no return value.

As far as I remember, this service was created a very long time ago and I think never truly used?

I recommend filing a support ticket, because the function and code behind this may not have been updated for a long time.
