ThingWorx Analytics - questions in 2026

Hello,

I did some research on ThingWorx Analytics, but most information I found is quite outdated — the latest updates seem to be from around 2020. In our company we use the ThingWorx platform and we would like to implement some AI-based enhancements for our condition monitoring.

I still have a few unanswered questions:

  1. Are there any recent updates regarding neural networks or the overall capabilities of this product?
  2. What are the requirements for implementing it into our existing ThingWorx platform? (For example, a specific platform version or any additional components needed?)
  3. How much information can it use when building a high‑quality neural network?

For example: I have raw machine data such as position, temperature, vibration, RPM etc. — the standard numerical data.
But I also want to use maintenance data (interval maintenance) and fault data (annotated in historical datasets for learn the neural network how data looks like when these events occur). These types of data can also be non‑numerical, such as a list of possible faults or machine parts replacement records that could affect machine behavior.  There are many variables that can influence the machine (surrounding environment - summer/ winter temperatures can influence machine).

.

So my main question is: How does the neural network handle these non‑standard, non‑numerical data types?

Thank you.

@MK_14505955 ,

You can evaluate ThingWorx Analytics on the PTC Cloud Portal, though there may not be a template for the latest version of ThingWorx Analytics available.

I would recommend that you speak with your PTC Customer Success Manager or Sales Representative to schedule a demonstration of the product for evaluation.

Regards,

Neel

Hello @MK_14505955 ,

For the latest information and feature capabilities for ThingWorx Analytics Server, please see the official PTC HelpCenter for ThingWorx Analytics 10.

There are several Topic Pages that go over the features, capabilities, release notes, and so forth. The ThingWorx Analytics Functionality topic hub would be the best place for you to start reviewing the capabilities.

You will also find the system requirements, pre-requisites, and data preparation requirements for using the ThingWorx Analytics Application.

Regarding your questions about "how much information" -- this is wholly dependent on the scale of your needs. ThingWorx Analytics can be scaled based on how much data you need to ingest and analyze, this is covered in the Analytics Server System Architecture topic.

For your main question, there are multiple approaches and this would be better suited to discussion with one of our Field Services Consultants to help you design a solution for your organization, or you can review the capabilities of ThingWorx Analytics Builder and Analytics Manager for the out-of-the-box capabilities.

ThingWorx Analytics has the ability to analyze categorical data (what you are calling non-standard), essentially what you are looking to do is considered a standard use case for the ThingWorx Analytics Server application.

We also have another application within the Analytics Server suite called Descriptive Analytics, which is dedicated to descriptive analytics analysis with maintenance use cases.

Regards,

Neel

Hello,

thank you for your quick and positive reply. I did a bit of research based on the links you shared, and I will definitely need to study the support page more thoroughly.

I would like to ask in advance:

If I prepare some simple data for learning and evaluation, is there any way to test ThingWorx Analytics? I am not sure whether I should ask here. By simple data I mean a one‑year evaluated dataset with failures and maintenance and other information (as the learning phase), and a second year as test data without evaluation (testing dataset).

We have several candidates for predictive maintenance solutions, and we would like to test all of them.

Thank you very much.
