Thingworx Server running but cannot access web pages

We have bumped into a strange problem that probably occured during an update of Windows Server 2016.

Thingworx and Tomcat appear to be running (ApplicationLog.log is continuously updating events) but we are unable to access the web pages, neither for Tomcat Manager nor for Thingworx. The problem seems to be related to Thingworx and not to the network and we have verified this by removing Thingworx and starting Tomcat Manager only.

The service status stays in "Started" and does not go into "running"

The catalina.log does not show any errors.

Tested with Tomcat 8.5.29 / 31 and Thingworx 8.2.2 and 8.3.0, Oracle Java JDK 1.8.0_161 and 171

Did you experience something similar or have any ideas on what we could try in order to recover the server?

Thanks. We upgraded and did a clean re-install on the server.

What message do you receive when you try to get to the pages?

Can you get to the main Tomcat page? (since you mentioned manager)

Also are you specifying the appropriate port (if you aren't running on 80 or 443)

Hi Pai,

Thanks for your help.

What message do you receive when you try to get to the pages?

We get a timeout

Can you get to the main Tomcat page? (since you mentioned manager)

We are not able to access anything, also not the blank page. However we can see that the Thingworx log keeps updating so it is "alive" to some extent.

Also are you specifying the appropriate port (if you aren't running on 80 or 443)

The server is set up for port 80 and it works fine if we remove Thingworx from the Tomcat folder.

Best regards Erik

Hi Erik,

What does it write in the thingworx application log?

Thanks,

Vinicius.
