AR Glasses That Support Unity & Vuforia (Area Targets and/or Multiple Image Targets)

Hello everyone,

I am looking for AR glasses that can run Unity-built applications and support Vuforia Engine SDK features, ideally including Area Targets or at least multiple Image Targets.

Key requirements:

  • The glasses should be able to run apps independently, without requiring a connected phone or PC for processing.
  • They should support Vuforia's tracking features, with a preference for Area Targets, but multiple Image Targets would also be useful.
  • The design should be less bulky and extreme-looking compared to HoloLens or Magic Leap, ideally resembling smart glasses.
  • The budget is ideally under $1000, though slightly higher could be considered if necessary.

I have looked into devices like XReal Air 2 Ultra, Vuzix Blade 2, and RayNeo Air 2s, but I am unsure whether they fully meet these criteria.

Does anyone have recommendations for AR glasses that fit these specifications or experience running Vuforia-based applications on them? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @SE_10151272 ,

Standalone AR glasses under $1,000 that also support Vuforia’s Area Targets are tough. Based on Vuforia’s own platform guidance and current device capabilities, Vuforia Supports:

  • Area Targets (room/space-scale tracking) require device tracking via ARKit/ARCore—or specific MR headsets.
Officially supported platforms include ARKit iOS devices, ARCore Android devices, plus HoloLens 2 but pricier and bulkier (and historically Magic Leap 2, now deprecated in Vuforia) for advanced features. Recommended Devices
  • Image Targets (marker/image tracking) work on a broader range of devices, including some eyewear, but don’t require ARKit/ARCore
