.gif / animation files in studio?

I want to create an animation when a button or widget is clicked in my 2D pane.

Should I be able to do this by directly pulling in a gif or avi file? Or should I use a URL image and play the gif from there?

I know gif and avi weren't supported before, but I am not sure if they are currently supported?

In ThingWorx Studio, animations are related to 3D model. Based on the usecase, you can always use the gif or avi files using URL image.
