Spatial Target capability for SonyXperia and Xiaomi Mi 8

Hello,

I was trying to launch spatial tracking (using Vuforia Ground Plane) experience on:

  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
  • Xiaomi Mi 8

which are not on the list of: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/vuforia-fusion-supported-devices.html

In the same Vuforia article there is a note:

"Features such as Ground Plane or Model Targets may work on devices not explicitly mentioned in the tables below assuming that the devices meet the minimum required specifications for the feature. For more information on the minimum required for Model Targets and Ground Plane, refer to the sections at the bottom of this page."

and down there:

"Ground Plane Minimum Requirements:

Android Devices

  • Android Version: 6.0 (Marshmallow) or newer
  • IMU w/ Gyroscope Sensors
  • Selective Image Stabilization"

which both mentioned devices fulfill, I suppose. Both devices work well with ARCore applications.

How is it possible that such powerful and flagship devices are not supporting spatial targets?

@mneufeld It could be due to the fact that spatial tracking experience uses ARKIT which these devices might not be supporting at the moment.

Hmm,

It looks like sample spatial experiences from gallery work fine on some Android devices: tested on LG V30 and Samsung S7...
