Adding roles to exclude from Team Members group, possible?

It would be nice to be able to create a role that did not automatically get added to Team Members. I believe default rights grant read/write access to Team Members so that means any role you add becomes part of team members. Is there such a way to have a role operate like guest? In order for this to work, it would have to be excluded from Team Members group.
