alternate and substitute

Hi All!

How do you use Alternate and Substitute? Let say I have two sets of hardware components for a particular product - cheap for preproduction use (testing and so on) and expencive for production. How do I set alternation or substitution only in the context of one product? How do I show that component has been substituted in the context of this particular BOM? right now it lists all replacement and substitutions, but nothing points "use this component instead" here. And since I am replacing a library component it adds replacement everythere it has been used - in all products...

Any suggestions or best practices are appreciated!

BTW I am trying it in wc10 PDM Link.

sorry no help from me. I am also in search for tutorial/example documentations.

I also wonder if those alternate and substitude are best suited when you use MPMLink as well so in your process plan you can better define which part to use.

Looking forward to further help from the communauty and maybe PTC itself !!

a friend of mine gave me this definition

Alternate Part:
• Suitable replacement for another part in all assemblies that
contain the original part
• Has the same form, fit and function as the original part

Substitute Part:
• Suitable replacement for another part in one or more, but not
all usages
• Does not have the same form, fit and function as the original part
