delete new family table items to old generic in windchill 9.1

I have a issue where a user added two new instances to a family table and checked it back in. And now the direction has changed and the user would like me to delete the last iteration of the generic removing the items from the system. When trying to do this windchill will not let me as the two new instances have no other iteration. How should this be handled?
