As per this thread, similar issue:

Hi Lori,

I know it is a older post. Please have a look into it, if possible.

Is there any option to change the template in below case.

I have a ".prt" file which uses a "X" template and now ".prt" is in "B" revision.

Now, I want to use the "Y" template for that .prt file

FYI: I have 1000 of .prt files need to use the "Y" template.

Do you have any suggestion on this?

Thanks!

It is not possible to replace a template. A template is used only for initial creation of a part, assembly or drawing.

You can create a mapkey that has the changes that have been made to your initial template and apply that to change the existing parts.

Yes, I agree with your note.

Actually, the scope is to change the Template in order to reflect those in the "Type" Attributes as shown in the image.

Thanks!

My system shows that as being CAD Document which is NOT the name of the template that we use for part initialization.

If you list the nature of the changes to your start template, the community may be able to give you some ideas on updating the old parts.

For example, if you just have parameter changes in the new template, you can setup ModelCHECK to update the models and automate the update with ptcdbatch.

Also, there are 3rd party vendors that may be able to help as well. I believe Etrage has a tool that may work for you.
