Question

Inheriting HW from other contexts

Version: Windchill 13.0

Use Case: Hello, in windchill, I saw that it is possible to call the same HW also in other contexts. However, if a parent HW contains other child HWs, is it possible to delete the child from the second context and add other children (or in general make changes) without making the same change on the parent context from which I inherited?

Hi,

Here , are the parent parts "HW Level" the same object? (Same Part Number)?

In this case, I am afraid you need to have different part numbers for the parent.

You have not stated the Business requirement or actual use case.

if you need different part number of child based on context, you can use something called "Effectivity Context".

I will hold the solution till I hear your actual requirement.

Cheers

Hari

Hi Hara,

thanks a lot for the answer.

Yes, the parent parts are the same object.

Could you please illustrate to me the Effectivity Context method or the Guide about it? I need different part number of child based on the context.
