Merged/Inheritance features and Windchill BOMs (Casting example)

I think I know the answer but if I check in a part that has a merge feature or inheritance to another model, the default in Windchill does not create a BOM correct?  There would be a linkage between the two EPMDocuments (parts) but not a WTPart linkage. Just checking if there is a preference for this or changed in 11. Use case would be a casting model where you inherit features from casting to make finished model.  This should be represented as a BOM. I think my option is to create the BOM manually.
