Question

New install

I have done many OOTB installs and some basic entries to test a Windchill install but this will be my first production setup. With that, I am seeking some advice and or clarification on my planned procedure.

I have Windchill 11.0 m030 CPS08 installed OOTB with only test data loaded. Do I need to reinitialize the data base by using drop user and create user to get a clean empty DB before starting?

Is it best to use the bulk loader for establishing participants, products, libraries, lifecycles, versioning, vaulting, etc.? I would think this would give the flexibility that if something is really wrong, you can edit the input file after reinitializing the DB and reload the data. Should the bulk loader do everything at once or as separate input runs?

What is the ‘proper’ sequence of loading data? Users and groups, product and library structures, vaults, lifecycles,  roles, teams, OIRs, etc. Does it matter which is done first?

For the bulk loading, can anyone give me same pointers or additional information on formatting the input file to get the information loaded?

Any other hints or suggestions will be appreciated.

If it is a New Windchill and test data.

Why don't you delete the data from GUI ??

Which Bulk loader is it ?? Statndard PTC i.e. WC Bulk Migrator or your Custom Loader ??

What is the ‘proper’ sequence of loading data?

This depends on the Logic you have used for input Files XML/CSV etc and should be as per Windchil Data loading reference guide Windchill® Data Loading Reference and BestPractices Guide.

I would always refer to this: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article?n=CS232115&language=en&posno=2&q=loadfile%20xml&source=search

Cheers

Ended up having to delete that Windchill install and start over to fix another issue with my vaults.
