Part Numbering in Windchill

while creating part number in windchill(Auto Numbering),how to add custom prefix with number.

 

Example:

 

Part Name is :HEXBOLT.

 

 

Part Number Should be HB00001

 

Part Name is CUSHIONBOLT

 

Part Number should be CB00002

 

How to do this .

 

Can anyone help me.

You will need multiple OIRs for each type that you want a unigue prefix for.

You might be better off creating those types of parts in a family table.

say for instance if I have 1000 parts then I need to have 1000 OIRs with unique prefix.

 

That is huge and not the right one since part numbers are keep on increasing day by day.

 

You might be better off creating those types of parts in a family table.

 

can you pls elaborate a bit family table

No, you only need an OIR for each prefix you need.

You may have 128 HB parts, that is 1 OIR.

For your 234 CB parts, that is a second OIR.

 

Family tables allow you to have multiple instances of a common design in a single file. All of the descriptions and interfaces are the same for all instances. Makes replacement very easy. Here is a sample family table of hex head cap screws.
