Use Case: Saving an Annotation Set to Windchill


Description:

Hi,

Saving an Annotation Set to Windchill from Creo View fails with the message "The view could not be saved. Try saving again under a different annotation set name."

Help me fix it. (

case 136054 is blocked for me.

Cause

  • At Windchill 10.1 M040, a new security enhancement has been implemented to ensure that only files from a known location are imported
  • Consequently, the saved Markup file's path, in the Markup Temp folder location, is being compared case-sensitively to the configured markup.tempdir folder location
  • Out-of-the-box, markup.tempdir=$(wt.temp)$(wvs.dir.sep)markup (in wvs.properties) and wt.temp=$(wt.home)\\temp (in wt.properties)
  • If the install path is set during the Windchill installation (i.e. wt.home) to a path that is in any way different to the Saved Markup file's path on disk, this failure will occur
  • For example, wt.home=c\:\\ptc\\Windchill_10.1\\Windchill does not match the physical path C:\ptc\Windchill_10.1\Windchill because it has an upper-case drive letter C

Resolution

  • Reported to R&D as SPR 2188896
  • Resolved at Windchill PDMLink 10.2 M010
  • Workaround 1: Use xconfmanager to the value of the drive letter to upper-case in the wt.home property value in wt.properties:
  • xconfmanager -t <Windchill>/codebase/wt.properties -s "wt.home=C\:\\ptc\\Windchill_10.1\\Windchill" -p
     
  • A Windchill restart is required to make this change
  • Workaround 2: Change markup.tempdir value in wvs.properties to wt.temp physical path, e.g:
  • markup.tempdir=D\:\\ptc\\Windchill_10.1\\Windchill\\temp$(wvs.dir.sep)markup
  • A Windchill restart is required to make this change
