SQL Server Upgrade Question

I'm on my Windchill upgrade journey from 10.2 to 11.0.  Currently we are on SQL Server 2008 SP1.  Our goal is to get to SQL Server 2016.

I'm thinking about taking the general steps below to get there.

  1. Upgrade from 2008 to 2012 in 10.2 environment
  2. On database server for 11.0, install SQL 2016
  3. Upgrade from 10.2 SQL 2012 to 11.0 SQL 2016

I was wondering if anyone else has taken this journey?  How did you do it?  It doesn't have to be to 2016, but that would be helpful.  Trying to get this all done before October.

Thank you,

Brian

Yes, that is the approach I would take.  You have to install and run the collation conversion utility in order to switch to 2012 and there is no point dragging that into your new 11.0 environment.  I would definitely jump to 2012 before jumping to 11.0.
