Summary - AutoCAD LT & WGM?

Apologies for the late summary.

I had one response saying they had a similar statement from PTC regarding
AutoCAD Mechanical, but it worked for them.

So, I got hold of AutoCAD LT 2007 (as we had an older, un-supported version)
and tried to install the WGM ... unfortunately it would not even install.
There is an error saying that 'C:\Program Files\AutoCAD LT 2007 is not a
valid AutoCAD 2007 installation' ... so I guess the WGM installer is
checking for the full version ... I couldn't proceed with the install.

I guess we'll have to invest in full AutoCAD ... or start using 2D Pro/E!!

PTC does not support the AutoCAD WGM with AutoCAD LT due to the fact
that Autodesk consciously disabled the ObjectARX, LISP, and VBA
development environments for AutoCAD LT.

The extract below is from the Autodesk Developer's Network on the
subject of integrations with AutoCAD LT - i.e. Autodesk do not support
integrations with AutoCAD LT. Since PTC has a good working relationship
with Autodesk, there are no intentions to violate such guidelines.

AutoCAD Mechanical is different matter; PTC do not specifically QA the
Mechanical version of AutoCAD against the WGM so it cannot be stated
that it is "supported", however, since it is basically std AutoCAD
platform with a few bells and whistles added for mechanical users it
'should' work.

The way PTC treats CAD vs everything else is annoying to say the least.
CAD integrations into a PLM product are good (Not PTCs), but the need to
be able add any file that contains a drawing (JPG, PDF, DWG, etc)
without the integrations is a no brainier. I know you can add them not
as a Cad Document, but as a Document, but they are treated so
differently it does not work well.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of those "doh!" questions

I am writing up instructions for our users who will be juggling
Intralink and ProjectLink for the next few months. There is no direct
interaction between these programs.

I've got the process to pull data from Intralink and place it into a
ProjectLink Workspace
I've got the process for adding data to a ProjectLink Project Folder
I've got the process for taking data from a ProjectLink
workspace and updating Intralink

What I can't figure out is, how do I update a ProjectLink Project Folder
with data from a ProjectLink Workspace?
Or how to update a ProjectLink Workspace with data from a ProjectLink
Folder.

I can take the data from either source and manipulate it into a
"temporary" folder and then move it into my ultimate destination. But
it seems like I shouldn't have to do that. (Where's the "link" in
ProjectLink if we have to shuffle everything outside?)

How do you add or update a ProjectLink folder with data from a
ProjectLink workspace?

How do you add or update data in an ProjectLink workspace with data from
a ProjectLink folder?

Unless you need the advanced features of the AutoCAD WGM (e.g. structuring
by X-Refs, attribute mapping) then you can manage AutoCAD LT files in
PDMLink as Documents. From the PDMLink UI, select Create Document or Create
Multiple Documents and select your AutoCAD LT files. You can then Associate
these files to Parts you created in PDMLink.



Many companies manage even full AutoCAD files within PDMLink in this manner.
