What is "Site Proximity" In Windchill File Server Management?

Hello Guys ,

I m looking for detailed information on "Site Proximity" In Windchill File Server Management.

When search on Windchill Help Center I did not get much info.

My question are -

1) What is "Site Proximity" In Windchill File Server Management?

2) How It can be implemented?

3) How this functionality works? Any flow diagram available?

4) Is implementing "Site Proximity" gives more benefits when have number of File server setups ( In my case more than 20 across the globe)

5) Anyone came across PTC articles on this ? As I did not get any articles on PTC KBA's.

Actually found this in the knowledge base:

interesting that it does not show applies to versions past 11.0. Not sure why.

Here is an excerpt from the Windchill Help Center:

When creating or editing a site, you can set a list of sites in order of proximity to the new or updated site. During ad hoc replication, the system checks these sites in the order they appear in the list to determine which site the content should be retrieved from. By setting up the site proximity list, you can ensure that user requests are fulfilled as quickly as possible by using the closest site. By default, the main site is added to the end of the list, if it has not already been included in the list in another place in the order.

You can implement it in the New Site creation under File Server Administrator as shown below.

Hi ,

I hv seen this info in Help center , but does not have below information ....

Content flows details in Site Proximity functionality ?
Proximity sites retain the content or not?
Proximity sites works for both upload & download?
