which document is best for "part type" inheritance

Hi all,

What document describes part type inheritance? I have looked at the help center

And I have experimented a bit. There might be a Business Admin document that treats this topic?

Hi Rick,

"Inheritance" comes into play when making subtypes of a main object type. For example, on the main "Document" type, you may want to add a subtype for a specific type of document that your organization uses. You can add additional attributes and constraints to the new subtype. Constraints that are inherited from the main type can't be modified though.

Hi J,

Yes, I have experimented a bit with child part types, so I understand a bit about it. However, you can create an attribute in the child, make it 'global' and it appears in the parent. That is not what I expected, and the online help does not make it clear, so I am asking if anyone can point me to a PTC document which discusses type inheritance. Or a support article.
