Question

Windchill Groups - Administering them

Hello experts,

We have a case where the PLM IT team do not want to take ownership of creating and maintaining the Windchill groups , say around 30.

Even though the best practice of providing access control to the users is via Role to Group mapping in each context is widely used, and the Windchill support team is generally maintains the groups - Member add / delete and new group creation, here its becoming a big tug of war.

We have some power users in departments, they might be needed to maintain the groups, but they are not given ORG Admin priveleges.

Question: IS there a way to provide a privelege - > Org>Creators> Groups,,,? like the similar way of Product or Project or Library creators??

This would be the best solution I reckon.

Any thought process?

Thanks & Best Regards

Hi @HV_14518816,

Where are the users maintained? Are they managed through the corporate LDAP?

Hi,

Yes, the users are maintained in Corporate LDAP, but the groups should be maintained in Windchill.

Thanks

The preferred approach is to maintain groups in the Corporate LDAP.
Access requests can be raised through SNOW, and upon approval, users can be added to the groups.

you can give ACLs permission , but without admin privilege they can’t have access to participant admin to create groups

I already tried this with granting the ACL to create / edit group. The following things happen.

  1. The user can go to a group and Edit to add / delete members
  2. But, the user does not have the landing page access to create a group.

Thats why I was saying that Org>Creators>GROUP CREATORS should be an allowed pattern by PTC.

what do you think?

its not that way, the policy admin has visibility check on the top of permission ,if you are not Admin Org/Utilities page hidden by validators :

This requires UI custo.
