Windchill Installation, It is just me??

Hi there,

I am trying (hard) to install and migrate from WC 12.0 to WC 13.0.

Somehow, I managed to get through that 100+ step process of installing and migrating. 
But why does PTC makes it so complicate to “just” update their products?

Did they never head about docker? 

e.g. why are all customizations burried somewhere in sub-sub-folders all over the place.

Why do I have to copy configurations files manually from the source system to the target system at migration step 67?

I am missing something. Is is just me, who thinks that the whole PDM infrastructure ist based back in the early 90s?

Technically going from Windchill 12.0 to 13.0, you are doing a new installation of 13.0 and then importing the data from 12.0.

    If the process were so easy, many experts would have been without job :D

     

    Yes there are many bottle necks that could be corrected for better and more smooth upgrade scenerios, but PTC does not care so much for it because it does not bring any additional dollar.

    Thanks that consultant companies have an opportunity to offer an own services to do so.

    being “not easy” would be acceptable.

    But the installation process is totally broken. It is really a shame, that PTC charges money for that kind of ******.
    It should be the other way around. PTC should pay their customers a compensation for all that frustration and wasted time.

    Compared to OpenSource projects, that have a comparable complexity, PTC’s “Windchill” is at the bottom of the barrel.

    Take Nextcloud, for instance. That piece of software can manage complex workgroups with their files, calenders, messages, media files and even video chats. Updating can be done “in place” (mostly by just pressing a button in the UI). 
    The users do not have to change anything. They can use new features right away.

    But can Nextcloud handle the complex relationships between objects the way Windchill can?

    Nextcloud may be fine for a simple ‘store it so I know where it is’  scenario, but I doubt it can do the relationships, BOM transfaormations, change requests/notices, and other things that Windchill can handle.
