Question

Workspace Corruption

Hi all,

I am running WC 10.1 M020 with Creo/Elements Pro M160. Weare having major workspace corruption issues. Some users have to delete their local cache a couple of times a week due to workspace corruption as this seems to be the only thing that will allow them to access their workspace. We also see ProE crash often when trying to synchronize the workspace from the workspace browser. The issues seem prevalent to almost all users but some are worse than others. Is there anything that I can check or do that might help. The issues seem random but are happening daily. Just this week we have probably had the issue 20 times.

Thanks,

Brian

We saw the same issue after our recent upgrage to M020. Some users had
issue going to workspace and some users had Creo Crash while
launching. They had to delete the workspace and re register server to
resolve the issue. However they had to do it only once. We haven't found
the root cause, other than the Windchill upgrade from 10.1 F000 to M020

There seem to be a number of scenarios and combinations of "ProE" and Windchill for which there are issues with Workspace integrity and performance. Am I just seeing things or are others seeing this too? Enough to get a focus group together among the TC members to collect information and push PTC to pay more attention to this?

Brian,
We are running Windchill 10.1 M010 with Creo Elements/pro 5.0 M150, and are seeing the exact same issues. I have a call open with PTC on this problem. As with you, we also have to delete the cache folder, re-register the server and start again. We have deployed the Workspace Recovery tool for all users, so when it crashes ProE and locks them out, they have a chance of recovering their work.

I am seeing this with Windchill 10.1 M020 and CREO 2. I have pinpointed our issue to the use of Firefox as the browser within CREO. We had to go there since all of a sudden we were not able to connect to Windchill with IE9 on a lot of systems. On my machine I can still run IE9, and do not have the same issues. Don't know if you are running Firefox or not.

Thanks,

I forgot to mention that I have found that deleting the users AppData\roaming\PTC\.ptcm1912\ptc-browser\Cache folder helps and it doesn't lose the server or passwords. But this is for Firefox only.

Agreed, this problem is losing work for our engineers, and is a real nightmare for the admins (because the engineers blame US :)!!

We see the same thing onWindchill 10.0 M020 with Creo Elements/Pro 5.0 M130. Much preventative Upload and Check-in going on here.

Okay, I was in the middle of testing some stuff when this topic came out.
Here is what I did. I removed all Java off of my computer.
I installed Java 7 u13.
Opened CREO2 tied to Firefox.
No error. No matter how many times I open it.
Sad thing is that now my JLink programs do not work in CREO.
Wonder if I need to recompile them.

Until I send out the email saying this.
Before I had updated Java, I could get it to show the server as unavailable 100% of the time.
I opened and closed CREO quite a bit before sending the last email, but went in again to check something else and bingo, error again.
Back to the drawing board. 🙂

I appreciate all the comments. I appears that this is a major issue affecting many of us. The workspace retrieval tool has been most helpful in helping us retrieve at least some of the files from the corrupt cache. You can download it from here is you need it.
