Question

Workspace Save-As disallowed for modified objects

Here is a scenario that comes up now and then:
User checks-out a drawing and model(s) and makes modifications.
Manager tell user that the changes are too extensive, and that a new part number is required.

User want to do a WorkSpace Save-As, but is disallowed because the models and drawing are modified.
If they had not been modified, the Save-As is allowed.

Is there a way to get around/override this behavior in Windchill Intralink 9.1?
(with Creo Elements Pro 5)

This behavior is still in Windchill 10.0. I've complained to PTC about
it. I think I managed to find time to put in an enhancement request.

Hi Gerry and others,

This is something our Engineers struggle with very often as well.
They now tend to rename the parts in ProE (config option: let_proe_rename_pdm_objects yes).

At Planet PTC 2012 in Orlando I spoke with a Windchill PLM and posed the exact same use case.

He told me that this should be possible with the next release of Windchill, internally called X24 (WC 11?), where an Upload of Changed Objects should be possible.

This was one of the intralink to windchill shortcomings I found in 2010 and presented to PTC at the 2010 conference and here we still are, my enhancement request like yours will go into the black hole,I wonder how many would just like our old intralink 3.4 back?

I was one of several people talking to PTC on this issue along with Olaf and we were definitely encouraged to vote this issue up if we wanted it to have a good chance of happening.

Is there some trick to viewing this? I just get "Not Found". Logging in makes no difference.

If the user really has Checked Out the objects they can be uploaded. After that the Save As is possibly from the Workspace.
But if Checkout is not allowed, upload is neither.
One workaround is to export and import into a new Workspace and do a Rename before upload.

I am looking forward to the allowed upload of non-Checked Out objects to get the Server side backup of all modified objects in the local cache.

The link does not work either way.

If you delete the /1300 you can get into the ideas page but the topic is not found. Maybe this is why the original link is not working.

I don't think it was removed because they are going to do it since one of the filters is called "Implementation in Process".

So does this mean it's already implemented?

Olaf,

I finally got in after several attempts at logging in. I had to go to a
different page on the site to log-in and then go back to the link you
provided. I added my vote to the idea.

Thanks
