Question

WT Part attribute not flowing to CAD Document Inventor 2023

When creating a new WT Part, the required attributes are entered and the Create CAD Document option is used to create the corresponding Inventor CAD Document. In this scenario, the WT Part attribute values are transferred correctly to the Inventor CAD Document without any issues.

However, when we later check out and edit the WT Part and expect the attribute values to flow from the WT Part to the associated EPM CAD Document, two specific WT Part attributes are not being transferred correctly.

We have verified that the attributes are configured and transferred correctly during the initial WT Part and CAD Document creation. The issue occurs specifically when the WT Part is checked out and edited after creation.

Expected Behavior:
The two specific WT Part attribute values should flow correctly from the WT Part to the associated EPM CAD Document during check-out/edit operations.

I believe the initial creation of WTPart and CAD is somewhat of an exception case. Typically, data flows from the CAD to the WTPart. This action is called a “build,” and can be done automatically on every check in of the CAD.

To data to flow from the WTPart back to the CAD, you need to do a “reverse build,” and it’s not automatic - there’s an additional manual step you need to do after checking in changes to the WTPart. Here’s some info to get you started: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS348055?source=search
