Question

How do I search for "comment"s that are in previous iterations?

We put a comment in at check in when we change from the prototype numbering scheme to the released numbering scheme so we can see through History what the old number was. This does not help if all you know is the old number and need to find the new number. How can we search for Comments in previous revisions in Windchill PDMLink?

Renumbering and renaming are part of the OOTB history in Windchill. Putting a comment for the sole purpose of recording the old number is not needed - extra work, and chance for errors. These renumberings and renamings can be seen in the TimeLine History or in the Rename History table:

TimeLine History - hovering over the blue dot will show who and when

Rename History table - have to add a custom tab to get this

If you have indexed searching turned on searching for the old number or old name will give you the current object. If you don't have indexed search on you can create a report to search for the old number and/or old name.
