How to customize an icon glyph or adornment?

Version: Windchill 12.1

Use Case: We have different subtypes for parts, and each subtype has a custom icon. The custom icons are already configured. Many of these subtypes can be an end item. When "end item" is true on the part, we want to add a glyph to the custom icon.

I am able to create a custom IconDelegate following this documentation: https://support.ptc.com/help/windchill/r12.1.2.0/it/index.html#page/Windchill_Help_Center/customization/WCCG_UICust_PresentInfoUI_IconDelegates.html

But I am not sure how to add more glyphs/adornments. I understand there is the IconCache cache with

_addGlyphs() and mergeImages(), but I don't know what is the best way to add another glyph to the class.

Has anyone done this before?

My workaround would be to create another set of custom icons for each subtype, to be assigned when they are end items.
