Hello everyone!

Please tell me the differences between Info * Engine and OData REST API.
Which technology should be chosen and which one has great prospects?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards!

Hi VladiSlav,

Unfortunately, I've used only REST API so far, so I can't give you the functional comparison, but I can mention 2 other important things to consider:

1. Info * Engine is a proprietary technology, while REST API is de-facto an industry standard

2. There are plans to deprecate Info * Engine in the future Windchill releases

Kind regards,

Dmitry.

Thank you very much for your reply!

Could you please write a source from PTC, where is it written that I*E will be deprecated?
I would like to study this issue in more detail.
Thanks in advance!

Hi VladiSlav,

This solution acceptance was a bit premature - you might consider the functional capabilities of each integration method first.

Keep in mind that OData REST API has a domain for executing I*E tasks.

Here is the concern about I*E from before the OData REST API has been first released.

What I have been referring to is the I*E deprecation mentioned in the Windchill roadmap session during LiveWorx 2019. I may sift through the available videos for the proof. The official announcement might be delayed for a while until REST API catches up functionally with I*E. Also, I*E have been available for a while and have some default ERP connectors implemented, so I wouldn't worry about PTC discontinuing it in the foreseeable future or ever.

Kind regards,

Dmitry.
