Inherit Parent Object Number into Child Numbering Scheme

Version: Windchill 13.0

 

Use Case: I am trying to understand if it possible to ensure that change tasks inherit the number of the change notice to form the prefix of their own unique identifier. For example, if there was a change notice called "12345" which had two change tasks included on it, I would like those change tasks to have numbers of "12345-001" and "12345-002".


Description:

Can anybody advise if this is possible?

Yes, this is possible.

 

I did something very similar however in my case the company wanted the CA to have the same number as the CN. They had only one CA per CN.

 

I did another one where to the need was to number CNs based on the year.  For example, in 2025 the CNs are numbered 25-0001, 25-0002, 25-0003, etc.

When 2026 rolls around the first CN made that year will be 26-0001.  You get the idea.

 

Your need is similar to my first example, rest assured it is very doable.

BTW, if the CN were to be renumbered later on the CAs could also be automatically renumbered to comply with your standards.

    This sounds extremely similar to what I am trying to do!
