Which licenses are required to use Windchill Information Modeler?
Is Windchill Information Modeler included with Windchill PDMLink?

There is no license required for Windchill Information Modeler (WIM) as its functionalities are not assigned to users, and it's only required for customization and specifically when dealing with custom modeled objects. If the customer has a valid license, he should see it on the eSupport Download Software.

Windchill Information Modeler is among what I call "the technical modules", such as Windchill Services, Windchill Common Base, etc. customers must not know anything about them (even if they are shown on "About Windchill") unless someone who deals with the installation, they should be transparent to end customers, see Article - CS373927 - Windchill PLM Modules vs Application Modules.

PTC had to split the solution into those technical modules to simplify the installation, update, and the installation of optional modules such as PartsLink, SUMA, etc. They represent what is common to all Windchill Common Platform (WCP) - from a code perspective.

Hello Marco,

 

as far as I can see the discussion doesn't really answer the question which license is required for Info Modeler. I might've overlooked it.

 

The discussion mostly revolves around the question whether Info Modeler is required. And I think we do require it. We have a few class files that were generated for classes with the @GenAsEnumeratedType annotation. Those generated class files can only be compiled, if Info Modeler is installed on the system. This is according to the error message: 

\CEMContactList.java:15: error: requires Windchill Information Modeler to compile
public class CEMContactList extends _CEMContactList {

If we do not require Info Modeler to compile these classes, I'd like to hear about it.

 

Currently we only have Info Modeler installed on our developer systems, but not on the test or prod environments from our customer. To compile the source files on those environments, we'd need to install Info Modeler there. My project lead remembered having to use a specific license for Info Modeler, which our customers don't have. Maybe that information is outdated and we don't require a license for it?
