Why do we need to configure Thingworx with Windchill after Installation?

After successful installation of Navigate we need to configure it with Windchill with Fixed,SSO or windchill authentication. My question is why exactly do we need to do this? Because as I understand while making custom apps we can use integration connectors where we can define the windchill link to retrieve data. Is it to make the pre installed apps work and if so how will the apps retrieve data if the Navigate was configured with multiple windchill?

Hello,

 

You need to choose an Authentication mechanism ( Fixed/Windchill Auth/SSO) in order to fullfill connector delivered with Navigate package. This way OOTB Navigate can connect to Windchill and get data.

Regarding custom apps you can create your own connector but you can take advantage of the connector bundled with Navigate. In any cases your connector needs to have authentication against Windchill.

 

Multiple Windchill is another topic. You will have to create one connector for each Windchill instance.
