Automating process - Parts into subAssemblies

Scenario:


200 parts on an assembly.

All components were created with minimum detail. Now that detail level results important, they should be updated and enhanced.

The aim is to "convert" these parts into sub-assemblies for allocating multiple levels of detail within each of them.

Any possibility of automating this process?

Only way I can think of is to select the part in the assembly and then right click, MOVE TO NEW SUBASSEMBLY, which is an icon.

    I would use the "replace" function to replace the low-detail PARTS with higher-detail ASSEMBLIES.

    I'd prepare these new ASSEMBLIES by using the low-detail PART as the 1st component and then "building around it".

    Then, in the parent assembly:

    1) select component. if more than 1 instance, find / select all the same components

    2) right click in the graphics area, select Replace

    3) use Replace By: unrelated component

    4) select the assembly that represents the high-level version of the component

    5) Important, don't click OK yet - click the Edit Ref Table to bring up the reference-mapping dialog.

           In it, you will define the new references based on the references used by the old component.

           If your low-detail part is there, the references might be auto-matched.  Otherwise, it's a bit tedious but better than alternatives.

      i think that you can also have multiple versions in the parts themselves by using simp rep and suppressing the desired features.
