Can we import a jpg or bmp into ProE for tracing and getting a design started?

Import it as a trace sketch in ISDX ie Insert > Style > Styling > Trace
Sketch.

Open the picture in Photoshop or GIMP (Free version).


Apply Edge Detect filter.


Save picture as a pdfand upload to:

Keep in mind that Trace Sketch is not available without ISDX until Creo 1.0.

Crop the image to the edges of the item. Create a surface as large as the item and make the surface match the width and height. Place the image using a decal texture via a color.

This is useful for place-holders as well. Rather than model all the keys on a keyboard, just place a photo of the keys on a keyboard shape.

For people not having ISDX the workaround would be to create a planar surface and map the image on the Surface via "Colors & Appearances". Map the Appearance as a planar map. Create the Planar surface to scale and stretch the image to match the edges of the Surface.

But TraceSketch is the best option.

While I had sent David this solution shortly after the question was posted
by him I did not copy the group. I was sort of expecting a summary posting
after the solutions were tested by David.



In any event my intention for the comment below, " Keep in mind that Trace
Sketch is not available without ISDX until Creo 1.0." was to add
clarification to Iain's (PTC's) post. While I think everyone really
appreciates any participation from anyone from PTC on the board it is
important we understand all the details. If anything, it gives non-ISDX
owners another reason to go to Creo. 🙂



For those who need the trace sketch functionality (dimensionally scale an
image) and do not have ISDX, I would suggest downloading Creo and give it a
try.

Hello All,


I do intend on providing a summary, however, I am the administrator and am awaiting feedback from the user. I will also tell you that there have been dozens of responses to this and almost as many different techniques. I would caution that several of them seem to be from different versions.......
