cast cavity/mold cavity

whats the difference between mold cavity and cast cavity if it makes the same thing. a recessed mold cavity. i used the cast cavity to split my part and i need the positive raised pattern mold. it only splits to give the recessed pocket mold. no good. any tips??

Can you explain this one a little more? Mold and Cast are both used to define the insert or sand geometry; the surfaces that touch the melted/molten material. Maybe a picture of the model you are attempting to create a mold for?
