Creo 2.0 Material file and Apperance File

I am trying to attach color to each of my material files.Some of the materials I will have more then one color so is there a way to keep the color attached to the mat file. Like Stainless Steel I have a color mad that is chrome and one that is sanded finish.I have got it to work but when I log of and on the color is gone unless it is attached to a surface. I have got the color to come across to the drawing also. Thanks, this one blew my mind.
