Creo - Cylinder Pattern with Tangent Points Illustrated in 3D Model.

In Creo:  Goal to create 3d representation of the following.  Imagine 30 golf balls (2” dia) on a rope 100 feet in length.  Balls need to be evenly spaced out starting from one end of the rope with a distance of 3 feet apart.  The rope with balls to be wrapped around a cylinder 2 feet in diameter.  The difficult part is to illustrate the tangent points where both the balls and rope make contact (interface) with the cylinder it’s being wrapped around.  Note the height and diameter of the cylinder can change to adjust the number of balls on the rope.  The target it to make both the rope and balls tangent to cylinder at touch points.

Does the rope go through the center of the golf balls such that they are strung like beads? If so, it seems this construct would represent the placement of the spheres on the cylinder considering ideal geometry and structure with the rope under tension. I have not modeled all of the balls for expediency. This model is not to the scale in your description; it is a proof of concept for the modeling. The balls are tangent to the cylinder and the wound rope.

Yes, the rope goes through the balls as you illustrated. The part that I have not been able to achieve is the tangency (touch points) for both the balls and the rope when wrapped around the cylinder. All other pitch and sizes are variables, primary goal is to illustrate the touch points. Greatly appreciated your attempting to solve this dilemma. Thanks!

These are the first 4 tangent points of the balls on the cylinder, you should be able to build datum features that also locate the tangent points of the balls to the rope as well. It requires some construction features (datums & possibly geometry) but I don't see why you would not be able to drop points on the model once the geometry is created. Clever use of patterns will speed up the creation of the points.
