Drawing format questions

I am working on new drawing formats and have a need to put some information in the format, but am having trouble. I would like to put a note on the format that list's the &format_name (not a real parameter that I know of) just like you would with &dwg_name or &model_name. If I put a note on with &dwg_name it shows me the correct information while I am modifying the format. However when I make a drawing bringing this format in, this line of text changes to the new drawing name. I basically understand why it is doing that but how do I list the format name on a drawing? Additionally if I can do that I would also like to list the PDMlink version of the format. Again I know the parameter is &PTC_WM_REVISION , but again it shows the revision of the drawing not of the format. In the end I would like to be able to look at a drawing in pdf or printed form and be able to check if the current format revision that is being used, I also would like this text to update if the format changes.

On another note - if you put a table in a format is there a way to fix its position so when you have a drawing with that format you are not able to move the table around?

I want to add another question:
what about the full path of the model, and the drawing? (are these
information available when you have no Intralink/PDMlink ?)

I can think of a quick no-tech method to do this. Add a static note to the format that contains the format name and revision. Every time you modify the format update the note.

Hi Ron,



I have played with drawing formats before.



I am willing to bet that there are no experts, you just bear the pain
until you get it, then you forget it.



One thing I remember though, the difference between a format and a
template.



Drawing format consists of things that will not change between drawings.



Text that says "Notes: Unless Otherwise Specified" "See Separate Part
List" and the like.



Also, all the boxes for the title block, company logo, proprietary
statement, but not tolerances... different for different parts.



Format will also include the first line of the Smart BOM that will
include the column headings only.



Templates are for things that will change. Parameter driven title, Smart
BOM, smart notes, rev, pdmrev, originator, date etc...



You might want to have a different template and noteset for each drawing
type, (machined part, sheetmetal part, assy, cable harness etc.)



Also, formats and templates get funky when they are missing
parameters...

You most certainly *can* include the revision of a format on the format itself

Here is I do it - include this note in a symbolon your drawing format:

{0:\dwg_name\}{1: REV }{2:\proi_revision\}{3: - Pro/ENGINEER GENERATED}

The name of the format gets entered as variable text within the symbol on the format itself - I forget why I had to do this; I think the namehad to match ourISO 9001 documents or something

Qualifying Statements -this works for:

1. Intralink 3.4

2. WF2 M280 & WF4 M160
