Question

Erro NViVIA OPENGL DRIVE

I'm getting an error when running tasks in CREO: ERROR CODE:3 (SUBCODE7). I've already contacted NVIDIA; we've updated the driver, rolled back to older versions, and tweaked the graphics card settings, but the error keeps coming back. The card is a Quadro P400.

Hi @MS_Santos,

Thank you for your question.

Your post appears well documented but has not yet received any response. I am replying to raise awareness. Hopefully, another community member will be able to help.

Also, feel free to add any additional information you think might be relevant. It sometimes helps to have screenshots to better understand what you are trying to do.

Same issue here with new Nvidia Drivers. Several DELL Workstations (from 2019/2020) PTC Certified, are getting the same error in our company.

We went back to 573.48 which is nearly one year old, works stable in Creo 12.4.X

GPU is a Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000

There is a CS article as of March 2026 that has steps to resolve your issue: Article - CS344319 - When using Creo Parametric to open and close files, there is a freeze with NVIDIA OpenGL Driver error Unable to recover from a kernel exception. The application must close

You should be able to log in with your PTC account and follow the steps in this article. RTX 4000 and P series graphics cards are listed as affected cards.

Hello everyone,

I also need to weigh in on the Creo crash message “NVIDIA OpenGL Driver - Error code: 3 (subcode 7)”.
We (I work for the Liebherr Group) have also been plagued by this problem since March - that’s three months now.
Three different Liebherr companies have already opened cases with PTC Technical Support regarding this issue.
According to PTC, over 50 of their customers are already affected by this problem.
We’re seeing new users every day who are suddenly experiencing crashes with this error.
Some report more than 10 crashes a day, making it nearly impossible to work with Creo (we’re using version 10.0.10.0).

Unfortunately, we can’t pinpoint the cause, and there’s no discernible pattern:
Both Dell and HP workstations are affected.
About 10 different NVIDIA graphics card models are affected.
We’ve already tested countless different driver versions - none have brought any improvement so far.

Various attempts to escalate the issue with PTC have been unsuccessful.
PTC says that only NVIDIA, in collaboration with Microsoft, can solve the problem, so their hands are tied as well.
Are there others here in the community who are as severely affected as we are?

Best regards,
Domenic

@DomenicLaritz :Same issue here with around 20 Creo Users. All DELL Workstations. The only solution which works very well is going back to a Nvidia 57X.XX GPU Driver. All 58X.XX and 59X.XX Version are causing the same crash error code 3 (subcode 7).

Hello Gian,

thank you for the tip.
Then we’ll also try to downgrade to version 57X.XX.

To resolve the NVIDIA OpenGL Error Code 3 (Subcode 7) in PTC Creo with your Quadro P400, follow the solutions mapped out by PTC Support and NVIDIA communities below.

The information from PTC article CS344319 was not helpful: 👎
The maximum performance settings didn’t resolve the issue for any of the affected users at our company (currently about 30).
And with our assembly sizes, it’s not possible to work with the win32_gdi graphics setting - the graphics card is absolutely required.

You had already the time to downgrade the Nividia driver? Just curious if this solution works for you :)

We’ve been dealing with this issue since February 2026. We were able to resolve the issue by adding the following variable to our config.pro file:

enable_opengl_vbo no

PTC’s tech support was not all that helpful because many of our laptops aren’t on their “Certified” list. Most of the folks affected here have RTX ADA GPUs. The older, non-ADA GPUs don’t appear affected.

On 30-Jun-2026, PTC Technical Support sent us information stating that we should install NVIDIA driver version 596.36 for the affected users and set the following three config.pro options:

  • enable_opengl_fbo = no
  • enable_opengl_vbo = no
  • enable_opengl_shader = no

The (somewhat older) PTC article CS169272 also recommends disabling these settings if you’re experiencing graphics issues.
This shows that PTC hasn’t made any progress on this issue and is simply trying out various solutions.
However, disabling the three options mentioned results in the graphics in Creo being worse than those in Monkey Island from 1990 - working under such conditions is simply unacceptable for users.

So far, @Gian’s tip to use a driver from the 57X.XX series seems to be the best workaround. For 90% of affected users, Creo runs stably again with this.
Unfortunately, using the old driver conflicts with our IT security policies, and not being able to update to the latest driver can’t be a permanent solution.
