flat / flange width dim rather than offset from edges

(I assume) many of us make tabs on sheet metal parts.

 

it would be nice to be able to set the width of a tab, rather than rely on doing the math to set it's offsets from each side.

 

To give the option to have a full length flat / flange, or to set its width & offset from an edge.. 

 

i.e.: I want a 3/4" tab, 2" from one edge of my part.  I have to do math to figure out what I need to offset from each side is to get this..  But, if my part changes width, the tab width then also changes by that amount..

From what you are describing it seems one or two relations would resolve the issue. You can capture all of the design intent you describe in your post in a Creo part (or sheet metal part) such that when the design is modified it will update the tab location as required by the specifications. You will still have to work out the logic and math, but only once if done in a clever manner to enable the design to update as required with a given set of inputs.

 

If you spend time up front defining the design intent for a tab, then you can build the logic and calculations into the model(s), and they will update without any manual calculations.

    For a flat, you can also select Sketch in the Shape tab and modify the sketch to meet your design intent.
