GDT Additional Advisor Hole Types
This topic was posed a month ago with questions left unanswered by me from PTC. I am reposting it here with the questions answered into the points.
We are currently using Creo Parametric 10.0.8.0.
- Describe the Problem
GDT Advisor only identifies holes as either "Simple" or "Multi-Element Hole". Users cannot choose Keenserts or Helicoils within the tool. If a hole is designed for use with a threaded insert, there is no option to select that in GDT Advisor.
- Are you using a workaround
Yes. The user needs to select the Multi-Element Hole feature, and identify the dimensions specified under MS51835 for Keenserts, or whatever spec they are using. These inserts have different annotation requirements than standard threaded holes, so they must be modified within the tool. Manually adding installation instructions as needed.
- What is the use case for your organization
When adding GD&T to a hole intended for keenserts, dimensions for countersink, thread class, and minimum full thread depth must be selected. With the required dimensions identified, necessary Keensert annotations can be selected for display, including MS51835 which specifies the hole requirements for the inserts and how to install them.
- What impact does this problem currently have on your organization
The process takes additional time and is prone to user error if incorrect specs or annotations are referenced. All Keenserts specify tolerances for countersinks, thread class, and minimum full thread depth, which need to be present under the listed dimensions. Additionally, there are lubrication, and installation notes that need to be identified and listed in the features annotations. Incorrect annotation can lead to part damage, or failure during the parts field use. This process affects all engineers calling out Keenserts and or Helicoils in their designs. Adding the feature to the tool will save significant time in model creation, but also save time in the event of user error as much of the information has to be manually added.
