Question

How to array hole feature on a round edge cube

I am using Creo Parametric Release 5.0 and Datecode5.0.1.0

How can hole features be distributed across the surface of a cube with large rounded corners on all edges? The purpose is to represent the shaping characteristics of a metal mesh stamped into a cube.

if the part is metal stamped and holes stamped in the flat state of the part

- convert the part to sheetmetal part

- create an 'edge rip'

- 'unbend' the part

- create a hole pattern by fill

- create 'bend back'

This was what I was thinking, too, but I don't have the experience with sheetmetal to suggest a methodology. This will give the closest approximation to what happens to perforated sheet metal that is formed. Putting holes on an already formed part is what one would get if the holes were drilled or machined after forming - actual cylinders. Your method shows the more realistic effect, particularly the weirdness at the corners of the box.
