How to flatten 3D curved surface?

Hello all,

Am trying to find a way to flatten a 3d curved surface of a pipe bend. It has a split down the middle to break and am looking to find the flattened shape.

Any ideas or thoughts greatly appreciated.

Try to convert it to sheetmetal and then use the flattening feature.

Not sure if it will work, though.

Sheet metal won't flatten that. You can try the flatten quilt feature, but I doubt that's going to give good results either.

This is a geometry problem, not a CAD problem. This is not 'flattenable' geometry. No matter what it will have to be stretched or compressed to produce a flattened surface.

What are you trying to get by flattening it?

It is not possible create correct straight surface from your model - because flattening is in two directions:
