Machining Features in assemblies?

Question

We have to make weldments as an assembly. When we add machining features, this too is done in a new assembly. All the cuts are done as assembly features. The problem comes in that the fillets and chamfer icons are grayed out and you cannot use them. Outside of using sweeps, or adding the fillets to the sketch, is there anyway to to use these two commands in assembly mode? Using WF 4

No. Assembly features are restricted to simple cuts and material remove operations.

If you are trying to do a machine part in multiple steps, you are better off using the merge method. What this allows you to do is 'inherit' stock pieces to apply machining operations.

Create a new part, then use Insert- > Shared Data -> Merge from another model OR Inheritance from another model

However, if what you are doing is between two distinct weldment parts, you could just use the welding features and keep them as solid. They won't necessarily look as good as a solid model fillet but it does the job. Perhaps WF4 has more profiles than I've seen with WF2 (I'm still stuck on WF2).
