Re-creating a WF5 Part in WF4

I have data from a client that a different outside vendor did for them in WF5 but they are still on WF4.  I know about the CGRI plugin, but is there any easy way to get the features from the WF5 model into a blank WF4 model.  At one time I thought that there was a technique using a UDF that would allow it to be brought into an older version, but I'm not sure if that still works.

I'm fairly sure that I'm out of luck, but thought I'd throw a Hail Mary pass.

The UDF work-around was blocked many version ago.
The CGRI has the functionality to include features made in WF5 back into the original WF4 model. Maybe you can use that in this way:
Create a new WF4 models.
Take that model to WF5 and copy all features from the customers WF5 model to this and save it.
Back in WF4 try to incorporate the changes from WF5 back to the WF4 model using CGRI. I think the functionality is call Graft.

I thought that the UDF workaround was obsolete, but couldn't remember when.

I've tried the CGRI method.  I'm able to open the WF5 model and see all the features.  I am not able to edit them, however.  I can add features, but this then seems to destroy the ability to edit the model in WF5.  I get this error in WF5 when opening the model after an edit in WF4:

"Error during Check Status: ATB Pro/E reference file '[model_name]' is missing."

I have all of the appropriate config settings in both WF4 & WF5.  I regenerated using the model player and saved it in WF5 prior to opening it in WF4.  I'm not sure if the vendor who made the file had the appropriate settings set in WF5 when the file was created.

At this point, CGRI is actually less useful than a dumb IGES or STEP import since it hints at associativity but then seems to corrupt all future edits to the file if saved in the older system.

Am I doing something wrong?

You cannot open the modified file directly in WF5, but will have to Graft the features created in WF4 starting with the previous WF5 version and use File > Graft Features to get the new WF4 features into the WF5 model. So files should be handled separately.
