Scaling a created table

All,

I have a table that I want to scale up in a drawing but can't figure how to do it or if it can be done? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

The only way I've ever found to scale a table correctly is to turn on the config option "variant_drawing_item_sizes" and then change the sheet size proportional to the table scale change needed. It's probably easiest to copy the table to a temporary drawing with simple dimensions like 10" x 10", turn on the config option, change the drawing sheet size to a scaled up value (like 20" x 20"), turn off the config option, and copy the table back to the original drawing. Just make sure you don't leave the config option on, or a table will automatically resize itself every time you drop it on a different size drawing.

    I had never heard of variant_drawing_item_sizes so, intrigued, I gave it a try. Didn't get any scaling pasting a table into a different size drawing but did get scaling when changing sheet size. Unfortunately, while the table scales, the text in the table does not. At least it is pretty easy to change all the text style in one command if it's all the same size. Interestingly, the default text size for a new row in the table did scale. So as usual, PTC got it 75% right.

      The following are personal observations about tables. Not from PTC or any documentation.


      * Table size is based on the drawing_text_height (DTH) and text_width_factor (TWF) drawing options at the time of table creation

      * Character height space claim

      o First character = DTH * 2.0

      o Additional character = DTH * 1.5

      * Character width space claim

      o First character = DTH * 2 * TWF

      o Additional characters = DTH * TWF

      * These height and width space claims are used to determine the table row and column sizes

      * Horizontal and Vertical alignment settings for the text in each cell will not violate these buffer areas.

      o For example, if a table cell is 1 character wide, and 1 character tall, (and the text height and width factor match the DTH and TWF used when the table was created), then changing the H or V alignment will have no effect.)

      o If you want to be able to move the text closer to the edges of the table, create the table with the DTH initially set smaller than what you actually intend to use.

      * By setting a table to one character tall, and then dividing the height in drawing units in half, you can determine what the initial DTH value was when the table was originally created.

      * Using the variant_drawing_item_sizes config option will allow you to resize a table. This resize effectively changes the DTH and TWF that were originally set at the time of table creation to some new value. (Since row height and column width are based off these values, changing these values effectively scales the table).

      * The variant_drawing_item_sizes config option will not change the text size in the individual cells. If the cell text height is set to default, it will follow the DTH for the drawing. If it is not default, it will simply remain the size it was regardless of changes to the scale of the table.

        We are looking a replacing our trusty old HP 650C DESIGNJET plotter with
        an HP DESIGNJET T790 44". Can anyone out there provided insight as to
        compatibility or any other issues. We don't often print large drawings
        anymore but we do occasionally and we also use it for posters around the
        plant etc. We are running WF3 on Dell precision T3500 workstations with
        64 bit Windows 7.
