Seed / Boundary Nightmare

I'm trying to find the interior volume of a PORTION of a complex casting
(i.e. one core such as "high pressure", "low pressure", "supply",
"return", etc.) and am having a lot of difficulty picking the
appropriate surfaces using the seed / boundary technique.
What I've noticed is that when you pick some surfaces, other
non-contiguous surfaces related to the same feature also get selected
(see attached). What I think is happening is if a feature like this
crosses over into a different core, it becomes a seed for the surfaces
into the next core, and so on ...
Any suggestions?
