Question

Select Components by Rigid Body # and Rename Rigid Bodies

Hello everyone,

I am working with a Creo Mechanism assembly and I would like to better understand how to manage the rigid bodies automatically generated by Mechanism.

In the Model Tree, I can display a column called “Rigid Body #”. The components have values such as: Ground123, and Excluded.

I have two questions:

  1. Is there a way to select all components that belong to the same Rigid Body #?
For example, can I automatically select all components where Rigid Body # = 2?

  2. Is it possible to rename the automatically generated rigid bodies?
For example, can I change the names from 1, 2, 3 to custom names such as body1, body2, body3, or more meaningful names?

Any suggestion on the recommended Creo workflow would be very helpful.

Thanks!
Fabio

Hi,

  1. to select all components that belong to the same Rigid Body, you can use the search tool : CTRL+F and then pick the criteria.
  1. Naming the rigid bodies is done by Creo itself. The ground has to be the first component(s) in the model with a Constraint of type Default see the Help Center : https://support.ptc.com/help/creo/creo_pma/r12/usascii//index.html#page/assembly/asm/To_Define_a_Body_as_Ground.html#

Hi @remy,

Regarding point 1: yes, using the Search Tool I can highlight and visualize all the parts belonging to rigid body 1.

However, I cannot do much with the highlighted result. For example, I cannot create a Simplified Representation from it. If I right-click, there are no useful options available.

Is there a way to convert the highlighted result into an actual selection?

The search tool will display the items found.
Then you need to collect them to your selection buffer with the button in between the columns.

Once you hit Close, the selection will be highlighted in the graphics, in the model tree and at the bottom right, the number of items selected.

Hi @FB_14460137 ,

The selection buffer will not select the components in the Model Tree, but if you have the Mechanism Tree displayed while in Mechanism Mode ( Applications > Mechanism), the searched body will be selected.

This Mechanism Tree also shows a Rigid Body node including subnodes for Body Connections, Incoming Connections, and Body Contents, where all of the components in that body will be displayed and can be selected together by selecting the first then hold Shift & select the last
