Question

Regarding the EOL of .NET 8

It is said that in order to run PTC Mathcad Prime, you must have the latest Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.x package for Windows x64 installed on your computer.

At the same time .NET 8 end of life (EOL) is November 10, 2026 – after this date, Microsoft issues no further security patches or bug fixes.

EOL means real risk: unpatched vulnerabilities, compliance failures...

Am I missing something? It seems rather serious. It looks as if I have to skip the latest version.

Does Mathcad Prime v12 work with .NET 10?

Here is a quote from “Read This First” guide: “PTC Mathcad Prime 12.0.0.0 has also been migrated to run on Microsoft .NET, enabling future releases to take advantage of the powerful new development tools provided by that platform”.

Welcome to the PTC Community!

This is a user-led forum, but the PTC Mathcad product manager is holding an Ask Me Anything session next week, right here on the Community.

The answer to this question is inherently a product roadmap one, so if you’re okay with it, I’d like to move this question to his AMA queue and he should give a response on May 5.

PTC Marketer for Creo and Mathcad. I run their YouTube channels, some Creo campaigns, and all Mathcad campaigns and communications.

Thanks for the prompt response.

There is a note also at the Prime v12 download section - Note: PTC Mathcad Prime 12.0.0.0 requires the latest Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.x package for Windows x64. Download and install the package and restart PTC Mathcad Prime 12.0.0.0.

I am okay with this question being moved AMA queue.

HI,

The .NET update plan is for us to make sure that each newly released version of Mathcad Prime is on a version of .NET that is fully supported by Microsoft. We moved Prime 12.0.0.0 to .NET 8 as that was the one available when we started the work, but you are correct - that is a shorter term supported version of .NET from Microsoft. That first move to .NET 8 was very resource intensive but now we’re on .NET, the transition to newer versions should be much simpler.

Mathcad Prime 12.0.1.0, releasing in the autumn, before .NET 8 is off support, will support .NET 10. Moving forward, we are planning .NET support for versions of Mathcad Prime based on the .NET version support length. In summary - we will never allow the latest version of Mathcad to only be available on an unsupported version of .NET.

Many thanks,
Andy.
