Quick question!

if cot(theta)= value , what function do i use in mathcad to find "theta". acot doesn't seem to work.

What version of mathcad are you using? it seems to work fine in MC15.

Unless I'm missing something theta would have had to be defined before cot(theta).

Could you please expand?

Why do you think that acot() doesn't work? I does as its the correct inverse of cot().
