A complete numeric solution would need to consider both the offset d and the spin angle phi of the probe, and it would require a three-dimensional table lookup with a whole lot of data. It seems that the effect of phi may be small enough so it could be ignored, reducing the table to a manageable two dimensions. But I'm not confident in my math.
