PTC Community Refresh

The Community notifications have these lines at the bottom about PTC/USER.  Since this represents a source of confusion about who is who, we will remove them.       

@olivierlp, I'm seeing 1,260 new emails for the 'Modeling' board tonight.  Looks like you've been moving stuff...  Could you please disable email notifications before you attempt this again?  @Jaime_Lee can show you how if you need help.  😉  Thanks!      

In the context of tweaking the layout to remove some unwanted empty space, I'd like to run this by you.  We currently have "in response to...", self explanatory.    We are considering changing it into this arrow (not sure what this character is called - anyone?). The functionality remains unchanged. It would save a fair amount of space, allowing other changes to take place on the page.  We know that the arrow  is a little discreet and should be bold, at least. Hopefully, this is intuitive enough. Thoughts?     

In reference to the intense activity that this post started, I‘d like to give a general update on these interface improvements. We have now some capacity to work on it. We are also getting better organized internally to process, test and push these changes live. We need to work in a cadence of likely 2 weeks to release improvements at a predictable day & time, leave time to work out the kinks, etc. As much as possible, this group will be made aware of the upcoming changes. I am sure you will have feedback for tweaks and further improvements as I have seen over the past few weeks. Not everything will be possible of course. There will be arbitration between ease 7 capacity to implement vs. value for all users. But we’ll do our best to improve your experience. @olivierlp, Please make sure the new inline method doesn't cause the loss of any of the existing buttons and also doesn't break the drag and drop (or 'paste' - CTRL+V) functionality for images.  Thanks.    

Hello,   We are preparing a series of changes and tweaks on the platform, to be released in the coming weeks / months… Some of them, we do ourselves; others, we have to outsource for development. Two changes to anticipate, one is the subject of this post. Once live, please let us know what you think.     For now, hitting the reply button moves the user to a different page. Some of you may use the quick reply feature: the user stays in the original page but with no WYSIWYG editor. This upgrade will combine the regular reply and the quick reply. See below. Lets hope the best, @olivierlp    Here is another bug in the new design: If I answer in a thread, the thread is then marked as unread for me in the overview! Now it is true that I forget quite a lot, but I usually still remember the fact that I just wrote a message. And since I usually read posts that I write, the thread should not be marked as unread and new for me in this case!

Some thoughts on the marriage of Reply and Quick Reply: Basically its a good idea to have just one reply option but I find it quite cumbersome that the reply window now opens with a very minimal height and usually has to be enlarged manually (an extra step to do which should be avoided). The three points which open the option menu for each single post are placed to the left of the date. IMHO it would be much better to place them at the outer to right. I am not sure if it has changed or was that way all the time. I just noticed it now: When I have opened a couple of Tabs in my browser - all with various threads of this forum to search a specific posting or the like - the tab where I can continue with my reply is named "Re: [topic name]: Reply - PTC Community]. It would be better if the tab would read "Reply: [topic name]" as with a longer topic name and a larger number of open tabs, the "Reply" is not displayed any more - I just had a hard time finding out which tab to chose to be able

Hello,  One aspect of the long thread here has to do with the structure of a thread. I think @Werner_E you indicated that on a topic with many replies and contributors, it is difficult to track who is answering who... We don't have a magic solution for this. I just wanted to represent how a topic is structured.    The graph below displays: when there is a space between replies and when they are attached the indentation depending what the level a reply addresses. 5 colors for 5 levels    I hope this clarifies the anatomy of a thread.       

Another change to go live this Friday July 9th:  Currently, notify moderator is a feature on the topic menu. By placing a new button in a more obvious place, we want to facilitate and enable more new users to call the attention of moderators. We are aware that this may generate more false positives. Depending on the result, we may change the button a bit and its placement. Overall, this will help the Community to remain clean.   Again, once live, please let us know what you think.  

Is it just me or is everyone being constantly bothered by these popup surveys? Every time I take a look at the forums to see if there's anything new, a window pops up asking me to "answer a couple of questions". Every single time. I'm betting it'll pop up as soon as I hit "Post" on this.

I would like to (restart?) the discussion on the use of Labels.   Just take a look at the Labels of the "Assembly Design"   We have Labels called "PTC Apps", "Troubleshooting" and "Connectivity" with only 1 hit, and the label "Other" has 4.728 hits.   Here are the Labels for "Part Modeling"     Needless to say, the labels are quite useless as they are now.   Are there any plans to introduce new (meaningful) labels?

While I always criticised the ranking system (actually in my opinion we don't need any as we also don't need any kind of gamification) with the various stones where many people (including myself) could not tell the precise order and some confused the stone names with the name of the poster, its my feeling that now it got even worse. While with the stones the criticism was that they don't communicate their meaning clear enough, the new "speedometer" does and even though I think that things got worse. While we could happily ignore the stones,  now functionality, comfort and usability are also impaired. The speedos are much too large and distracting and the whole page looks ugly and like a mess. Furthermore the graphics take up much too much space - especially vertical space (but also horizontally, resulting in the need for otherwise avoidable line breaks). All this results in less information available per screen making more scrolling necessary which is a loss of comfort and usabili

Seems like there is a new default to give people names consisting of two letters, underscore, and six (eight) random numbers. Lots of new and some old users now sporting these anonymized names. Makes it very difficult to recognize a particular person. What gives?

@MartinHanak @Werner_E did not see any of this dialogue on the Champion Board, but this is a sneak peek at what we arrived to for new ranking structure for the PTC Community.   Important things to remember.....your PTC Community MGR needs to focus on other things other than ranking so I have to set up a rank road map that will be sustainable and globally friendly.  My last community I managed has approximately the same number of levels/ranks that I am suggesting here and my top contributors are just now topping off 11 years later.  Typically, people that are engaging with PTC products are staying in their careers for more than a decade yet new users are always joining and appreciate gamification best practices.  So, these are the final ranks.  I need my most prolific users to be supportive and encouraging with these community changes.  I hope I can count on you!  I may move this thread to the public board when we are ready to reveal ranks (editin

Hi, Champions (+ Friends),   Sorry this board has been SO dead!!!  Someone suggested I remove it, but I was like NO WAY!  I need this space to talk to Champions and other PTC Community enthusiasts about stuff related to the structure and design of our own PTC Community!     So, here is a question for you.  It is that time of year again that I need to dump some maintenance hours on Khoros platform improvements.  It's really incremental, but if you had community member experience improvements to make where/how would you want to see it spent?     I have already had some requests from the product management team, but it is more "backend stuff" so I need some customer perspective on what "front end" stuff you would like to see refreshed.

Hi, Everyone,   I know it has been awhile since we have talked about our PTC Community Refresh efforts.  I am sure you have been keeping up with Community Announcements  where the general Community is informed about updates and changes in the Community.    We are ready to launch some more updates that I need the PTC Community Refresh Group feedback on.   There is a great discussion going on in the Community Feedback board about ranks, and it is perfect timing because the Community Team has a project underway to enhance the gamification on our community.   So, this is the deal....Level 1-20 (our current Community) is helpful but not very exciting.  Unfortunately, some of our members have topped off and the backend formulas are so arbitrary that no one really moves very quickly (or at all).  I think we are going to swap out the levels with a "themed" ranking system.  I will "publish" the path so you know where you are along the journey.&n
